For people with a garden, having a comfortable bench to sit on is necessary. For instance, perhaps you have a garden pond, filled with flowers, fish, a fountain, and light fixture, all surrounded by beautiful plants. Just imagine being able to sit nearby on a garden bench so you can feed the fish and enjoy the beauty and tranquility of the pond. This example is just one of many for which a garden bench could be used.

Depending on the style you choose, these benches are not that expensive, typically running from $100 to $500. Many have curved seats and contoured backs to ensure you have the ultimate comfort. If this sounds like something you would like, you might consider the following tips when shopping:
  • Look for clear Western Red Cedar, which is strong and durable
  • Make sure the wood has a sanded finish
  • Be sure the edges are fully routed
  • Look for benches with a dowel and connector bolt assembly
  • If possible, buy a bench with zinc-plated hardware
Most often, you can purchase a garden bench fully assembled or you can choose one that is just partially assembled so you can put it together on your own. The standard size of a garden bench is 55 x 23 x 35 inches and will usually weigh around 20 pounds. However, keep in mind that you can always find benches of a smaller and larger size.

Garden benches also create a beautiful look in a garden, being used in any number of situations. You might have a gorgeous rose garden with winding trails where you could place a bench just to have a place of peace. Another option for a garden bench is for a Japanese Garden, which typically features garden benches. You will find these benches at gardening centers, home improvement stores, hobby stores, nurseries, and on the internet.
